Small Groups
Purpose: Our purpose as a Christian community is to become more Christ-like by loving God with heart, mind, soul, and strength and by loving neighbor as self. This happens best in smaller group settings. Small groups offer an opportunity for you to learn to know others in the congregation better, to have a place to share your joys and struggles, and as a place to nurture your spiritual life in healthy ways.
If you are not in a small group but have interest in joining a current small group or in forming a new group please contact Pastor John Bender. If you have interest in a particular small group you may call the contact person for that small group or let John Bender know of your interest.
Current Small Groups:
Los Amigos – small group shares a simple evening meal together and takes time to reflect on our lives at work, in the church and in the community. Typically each member of the group conveys a story or joy or concern. We then pray together and lift each other’s joy and concerns to God. It is our hope that the forum provides a space for reflection and mutal support. We are currently meeting every 2nd and 4th Sunday evening of the month – dates/venues are sometines shifted to accommodate schedules.

Parenting Small group – meets the first Saturday of the month at PMC. The focus of the small group is on raising our children as Christian parents. We begin with a meal, have a group discussion about a chosen topic related to parenting, check in with each other and end with prayer. Childcare is provided for our discussion times. This group is open to any parents who have interest. Currently they are not meeting but if you have any interest in this group please contact Jaime Horst.
Book Club – Our book club is open to new members and will be continuing this year, however, we are only a women’s group now. We’ve basically been one for 2 years but decided to make it official this year. We meet once a month and eat together, potluck-style. Whoever hosts makes the main dish. We generally meet on Mondays, but we can be flexible if that doesn’t work for someone.

Adult Bible Study – Our small group is an adult bible study. We have decided to begin by studying Hebrews. We focus on one chapter and when together read it aloud from various translations. We share our individual prayer concerns and eat together. We have not settled on a specific, routine schedule of meetings. We do take turns meeting in each other’s homes. Our group is newly formed so we are trying out different days and times to see what works for everyone.

Young Adult Small Group - is just begining to meet, meeting weekly on Wednesday evenings at 7:00pm. Our meeting place is a Joe and Cara Delphia’s house in Highland Park. Our plan is to make it a young adult fellowship, to bring the young adults of PMC together. We are studying the book of Romans, studying one chapter a week, but we also want this group to be a time to share our prayer concerns, our praises, and basically fellowship with each other. This group is of course welcomes all young adults.
Gifts, Strengths, and Calling group meets twice each month, either on Friday night or Saturday night, depending on Mr. and Mrs. Stahl-Wert’s Salsa Dance schedule. Contact person is John Stahl-Wert, stahlwert@servingleaders.com. We are using various teaching and highly interactional approaches to examine strengths, values, vision, mission, and calling…and spending time each evening encouraging one another in daily work, and praying for one another.

Gather for Games small group – meets once a month on the third Saturday of the month. The meetings are usually at the Stucky home in Moon Township but the meeting place is negotiable. The group meets at 6pm for a potluck meal and then they play games. The group enjoys fellowship, laughter, and exploring new games. This group is currently not meeting, if you have any interest in this group please contact Lynda Stucky.
New Groups forming:
If you have an idea for a new small group around a particular theme or focus please contact John Bender so we can make it known to the congregation to see if there is interest by others in participating in it with you.
If you have interest in being part of a Men’s group or a Women’s group that would meet on a regular basis for support and prayer please let John Bender know of your interest. If there is enough interest in being part of a men’s group or a women’s group we want to help facilitate this happening too.
